Not sure what to wear your cuff with? Here are five easy ways to style a cuff bracelet, with kurtis, sarees, mixed metals, hand chains and matching sets, plus how a cuff should fit.

By Avora 4 min read

A cuff is the easiest way to look dressed up without trying. Slip one on and a plain kurti suddenly looks styled, a simple saree looks festive, and even a T-shirt feels a little more put together. It is one piece, it takes two seconds, and it does more work than a whole stack of thin bangles.

Still, a lot of people buy a cuff, wear it once and leave it in the box because they're not sure what to pair it with. This guide covers five easy ways to wear one, from everyday outfits to wedding season, plus how a cuff should actually fit.

First, get the fit right

A cuff should sit just above your wrist bone, snug enough that it doesn't slide down over your hand but loose enough that you can slip a finger underneath. Open cuffs slide on from the side of your wrist, not over your hand. Hinged cuffs simply open, close and stay put. If an open cuff feels a little loose, press the two ends together gently, once. Bending it back and forth again and again can weaken the metal.

Everyday

Everyday: one cuff, short sleeves, done

Wear it withWhiteBeigeOlive

The simplest way to wear a cuff is on its own, with short or three-quarter sleeves so it can actually be seen. A cotton kurti, a linen shirt with the sleeves rolled up, a plain tee. Let the cuff be the only jewellery on that arm and keep your other wrist bare or wear your watch there.

Smooth, wavy designs work best for daytime. They look polished without feeling like you dressed up for an event, which is exactly what you want for class, the office or running errands around town.

Styling tip Wear your cuff on the hand you don't write with. It stays out of the way and won't knock against your desk or laptop all day.

With a saree

With a saree: the modern alternative to bangles

Wear it withMaroonEmeraldGold

Bangles are the classic choice with a saree, but a wide gold cuff gives you the same festive shine with a cleaner, more modern feel. It works especially well with silk, katan or a saree with a strong border, where lots of thin bangles can look busy.

Wear the cuff on one wrist and leave the other light, maybe a single ring. With a short or elbow-length blouse sleeve, the cuff becomes the focus of every photo where you lift your hand.

Styling tip If your blouse has long sleeves, wear the cuff just over the end of the sleeve. It holds the fabric neatly in place and still shows.

Mixed metals

Mixed metals: the rule you're allowed to break

Wear it withGreyBlackBlush

The old rule said never mix gold and silver. That rule is gone. A two-tone or tri-tone cuff, with gold, rose and silver woven together, is the easiest way to try it, because the cuff has already done the mixing for you.

The bonus? A mixed-tone cuff goes with every other piece you own, gold or silver. It's the one to grab when you can't decide, and it looks especially good with grey, black, white and soft pastels.

Styling tip Pick up one of the tones somewhere else, like a silver-tone ring or a gold pendant, so the look feels planned rather than random.

With a hand chain

With a hand chain: a full, finished wrist

Wear it withIvoryPeachMustard

Want your hand to look completely styled? Wear a sleek cuff with a fine hand chain on the same arm. The chain covers the back of your hand and the cuff sits just above, so together they look like one designed piece.

Balance is everything here. A smooth, simple cuff with a delicate chain looks elegant. Two busy, detailed pieces fight each other. Save this look for dawats, Eid visits and wedding functions, where your hands will be in the spotlight.

Styling tip Put the hand chain on first, then slide the cuff on above it. Doing it the other way round usually means the chain gets caught.

Full set

The full set: for when you want to be noticed

Wear it withBlackWineChampagne

For receptions, parties and big nights out, go bold with a sculpted cuff and a matching ring. A matching set does the styling for you: the shapes repeat, the gold tone matches exactly, and the whole hand looks deliberate.

Keep your neck simple, a fine pendant or nothing at all, so all the attention goes to your hands. Dark outfits like black, wine or deep green make sculpted gold look even richer, especially under warm evening light.

Styling tip With a statement set, skip rings on the other hand. One fully styled hand looks confident. Two can look like too much.

How to keep your cuff shining

Cuffs are on your wrist all day, so they meet more hand cream, water and sanitiser than any other piece. Take yours off before washing your hands, cooking or cleaning. Wipe it with a soft, dry cloth before you put it away, and store it in its pouch so it doesn't get scratched by other jewellery. Textured cuffs hide small marks well, while high-shine ones love a quick polish now and then.

Start with one

If you're new to cuffs, start with one smooth gold design you can wear with almost anything. Once you've seen how much it lifts a simple outfit, you'll be reaching for it every morning.

Questions we get asked

Which wrist should I wear a cuff on?

Most people wear a cuff on the wrist they don't write with, so it stays comfortable and doesn't knock against things. If you wear a watch, put the cuff on the other wrist.

How should a cuff bracelet fit?

It should sit just above the wrist bone, snug enough not to slide over your hand but loose enough to fit a finger underneath.

How do I put on an open cuff?

Slide the narrow side of your wrist through the opening, then turn the cuff so the opening sits on the inside of your wrist. Don't pull it open wide, as that can bend it out of shape.

Can I wear a cuff with a saree?

Yes. A wide gold cuff is a modern alternative to bangles and looks especially good with silk and katan sarees and short or elbow-length blouse sleeves.

Can I pay with Cash on Delivery?

Yes. Every Avora order is Cash on Delivery anywhere in Bangladesh, and delivery is free on orders of ৳1,000 or more.
